Dr. Dominick M. Maino was presented with the 2014 Golden Gavel Awards from the Illinois College of Optometry Alumni Association (given for distinguished service to the Illinois College of Optometry and dedication to the ICO Alumni Association). He is a professor of pediatrics/binocular vision at the Illinois College of Optometry and is also in private practice at Lyons Family Eye Care in Chicago.
Dr. Maino is an internationally recognized authority on children and adults with binocular vision dysfunction and those with special needs. His latest book was awarded 1st Prize by the British Medical Association in the area of Health and Social Care. He was the founding Pediatric/Binocular Vision Resident at the Illinois Eye Institute, the first faculty member to serve on ICO's Board of Trustees (along with Dr. Gary Lesher), the only ICO faculty member to serve on the ICO BOT's twice, and the only faculty member to be a President of the ICO Alumni Association.
The American Optometric Association frequently uses Dr. Maino talents as a media spokesperson on numerous topics (from all things digital to binocular vision issues to patients with special needs) as well. He helped to create the Optometry and Visual Performance journal and has been the editor of two journals, author of hundreds of articles, books, book chapters and other publications and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
